The Secret – Law of Attraction

“A year ago, my life had collapsed around me. I’d worked myself into exhaustion, my father died suddenly, and my relationships were in turmoil. Little did I know at the time, out of my greatest despair was to come the greatest gift. I’d been given a glimpse of a Great Secret. I began tracing The Secret back through history.” – Rhonda Byrne, Author of The Secret

Does this sound familiar?

This is my story: “A year ago, my life had collapsed around me. I’d worked myself into a roller coaster of emotions, my father was admitted to hospital due to heart problem 2 months apart with many follow-up visits, and my relationships were in turmoil. Little did I know at the time, out of my greatest despair was to come the greatest gift. I’d been given a glimpse of what life is all about. I began struggling to get my life back on track.”

This year, I had been exposed to The Secret – the law of attraction, positive thinking.

The Secret Trailer

And I started pondering…Why weren’t we exposed to the secret in our early education – in the way explained in the book?

“The Secret has been passed down through the ages…coveted, hidden, lost, stolen, bought for vast sums of money, and known by some of the most exceptional people who ever lived: Plato, Shakespeare, Newton, Hugo, Beethoven, Lincoln, Emerson, Edison, Einstein, Galileo, Da Vinci.” – The Secret

We, human being, tend to delve into negative thoughts more easily than positive thoughts. We were born to complain, criticize, to perceive others based on our own perception. When something bad came up, we tend to think “It always happens to me”, “Why am I the unlucky one?” etc. instead of “I feel glad that I’m given the opportunity to experience this so I can learn from it, or “I feel glad that I’m the chosen one to experience this…” etc. With the understanding of the law of attraction, we will be able to live the life we want!

Sometimes, it is not easy to control our thoughts, especially when we are enveloped within a negative society, as there is always this little voice in us trying to take control of our thoughts.

Months ago, I’d stopped reading the newspaper because all I felt after reading it was negativity – insecurity, fear, unfairness, ridiculous, uneasiness. Every time when I read the main section, I would shake my head ridiculously because it was full of sensational news – death, rape, scandal, disaster, political issues etc. Yes, on one hand, we need to know what’s happening around the world. However, with this constant bombardment of negativity, how can one think positively when the news becomes a hot topic of discussion in office, social gathering etc?

When we often read something from the negative perspective, we will see it in our mind, bringing it into our life – just like what Bob Proctor said “If you see it in your mind, you’re going to hold it in your hand” and Mike Dooley “Thoughts become things!”. When we share it with others, we are actually manifesting it into reality. It is the law of attraction!

This is so true because I felt happier ever since I stopped reading newspaper. Even when I log into Facebook, my eyes will eliminate all negative news because my emotion will turn into negative if I start to read them and a series of negative events will follow.

“Here’s the problem. Most people are thinking about what they don’t want, and they’re wondering why it shows up over and over again.” – John Assaraf.

Last year, I was living in fear, the fear of my father’s health status. I don’t want anything to happen to him. After reading The Secret, I realize that I was actually manifesting my own thoughts. I worked towards changing my thoughts and the situation got better. However, I do tend to slip back into negative thoughts now and then. This is why we need to surround ourselves with positive people and positive and empowering messages frequently.

As the Genie in Aladdin said “Your wish is my command.” This is how the law of attraction works.

After understanding the law of attraction, I’ve a better grip of the reality and able to reflect on a situation based on the understanding of this law. Things started to change gradually when I focused on what I really wanted. Opportunities just popped up out of nowhere – from close contacts to distant contacts to hi-bye contacts. When this happens, it is up to us whether we see it and grab it firmly because without any actions taken, things will remain as they are and then, we’ll start blaming our fate all over again.

Last week was a long week for me when everything seemed to be out of order. And I began to reflect and understand that it is the law of attraction! By changing my emotion, I could change the situation, provided that my thoughts are strong and clear. This is called the creative process – Ask, Believe, Receive:

  • Ask: Be clear and firm on what you want and just ask once.
  • Believe: Believe that you’ve received and have faith.
  • Receive: Feel wonderful about it.

This is a way to remind ourselves how powerful our thoughts are.

You are the creator of your destiny!

I’m on the journey of clearing the junks out of my mind. What about you? Have you started for yourself?

Longevitology 長生學: Saving People with Benevolence and Compassion

One of my health resolutions of the year is to enhance my mental health. Don’t get it wrong here as “mental health” encompasses the health of the mind, emotion, soul and thinking. The law of attraction said “like attracts like” and it was quite amazing when everything started to take shape in March 2011, the month where I got too emotionally attached and being introduced to Enneagram and Longevitology (長生學).

Since I was a little, I was always been captivated by wuxia 武俠 movies, in which one of the common scenes shows the master putting two hands on the back (lungs area) of an injured person to provide healing. I didn’t expect that such thing really exists in real world but it is not as exaggerated as those depicted in movies.

(All information on Longevitology 長生學 mentioned below is extracted from Longevitology 長生學 textbook and website).

“Render Your Love, Extend Your Hands. Let Our Bodies, Hearts and Spirits Become Healthier” - Longevitology 長生學

What is Longevitology 長生學?

Longevitology (長生學) uses the human body as a channel to receive energy from the universe. This universe energy will energize every cell, enabling every organ to function normally. From the oriental medicine perspective, “illnesses” mostly derived from the maladjustment of chi and blood. With active flow of chi and blood, the illnesses will naturally disappear.

After attending the classes, students will have their chakras opened and they can improve their health via meditation and self-healing exercise. Furthermore, they can apply Longevitolog (長生學) to improve the health of others.

Purpose: Saving People with Benevolence and Compassion

With love, patience, care and compassion; without any expectations for fame, gain, reward, personal desire and greed; and uphold the spirit that the purpose of life is to serve others, Longevitology (長生學) aims to serve and contribute our love and care to the society, with the faith that these endeavours will help cultivate the kindness of human nature, thus enabling our families happier, our society more harmonized, our country stronger and our well-being healthier. Therefore, no tuition fees are involved.

Personal Experience

When I first received energy adjustment at a Longevitology 長生學 Service Centre as a patient, I could feel the energy (chi) flowing in my body now and then. It was like pricklish feeling at times. My head felt lighter and calmer. More importantly, my father who got easily tired, especially at night after the heart attack last year, had become more energetic after few sessions over few weeks, with other positive changes seen in his health too.

My parents got really excited on this art of healing and finally, they (and I) had the opportunity to attend the beginner and intermediate 6-night class in early July. We travelled for more than an hour to the venue every day without fail to learn the healing. It was a great experience of peace of mind and healing hands. From remembering the 7 chakras (location and healing functions) and the location of our body organs to understanding body systems and diseases, it was a fruitful learning journey about health and life. What’s more with all those miracle stories of the healing energy shared by Teacher Lin Tze-Chen and seniors. Listening to Teacher Lin Tze-Chen really inspired and motivated us to embrace a lovely heart. The class itself taught us about being benevolence, as all the administrative costs of the class were supported by donations from the participants – the students.

During the chakra-opening session, I was quite eager to experience the feeling. I was imagining, since it’s about opening, will I feel ‘pop’? Oh, it was just normal body sensation to me. When the chakra-opening master opened my 6th (at the centre of the forehead) & 7th (centre on top of the head) chakras, I felt a warm sensation on my face and within seconds, the chakra-opening session was over. For 4th (on the vertebra behind the heart) and 5th (on the vertebra behind the neck and in between the shoulders) chakras, I felt energy flowing on my feet and leg. However, I didn’t feel anything for 2nd (on the tailbone) and 3rd (on the vertebra behind the navel) chakras opening. Ever since I got my chakras opened, the major change I feel in my body is a calmer, more focused, happier mind and a more energetic body.

Teacher Lin said different people has different reaction towards chakra-opening and receiving energy adjustment, and the more serious health problems one has, the more differences one may feel. This could be seen in my parents.

And now, we are volunteers at the centre we frequented previously, extending our healing hands to help others in need, like how our seniors help us previously. I will continue to dedicate my time and energy in learning what life is really about.

Who Am I?: Enneagram – Discovering Your True Self

Who are you?

(Who am I?)

Do you really know and understand yourself?

(Do I really know and understand myself?)

Are you aware of whom you are but you’re trying your best to deny it?

(Am I aware of whom I am but I’m trying my best to deny it?).

Only when one really fully understands himself will he be able to fully utilize his strengths and personality and make changes on his weaknesses to achieve his goals and live life to the fullest.

Like the saying that goes:

“A wise person, through self-reflection, time-travels back to the past to make amends.

An enlightened person, through repentance, enables life to be reborn.”

Beside self-reflection and repentance, there’s a “tool” that can assist in revealing to you your true personality and your current situation. It is the Enneagram.

Enneagram = Greek words ennea (nine) and grammos (something written or drawn)

Enneagram is a typology of human psychology that defines nine personality types as shown below, which are all interconnected to reveal who you really are.

Which type are you? (Info from The Enneagram Institute)

1. The Reformer / The Good Person

Key Motivations: Want to be right, to strive higher and improve everything, to be consistent with their ideals, to justify themselves, to be beyond criticism so as not to be condemned by anyone.

2. The Helper / The Loving Person

Key Motivations: Want to be loved, to express their feelings for others, to be needed and appreciated, to get others to respond to them, to vindicate their claims about themselves.

3. The Achiever / The Effective Person

Key Motivations: Want to be affirmed, to distinguish themselves from others, to have attention, to be admired, and to impress others.

4. The Individualist / The Original PersonKey Motivations: Want to express themselves and their individuality, to create and surround themselves with beauty, to maintain certain moods and feelings, to withdraw to protect their self-image, to take care of emotional needs before attending to anything else, to attract a "rescuer."

5. The Investigator / The Wise Person

Key Motivations: Want to possess knowledge, to understand the environment, to have everything figured out as a way of defending the self from threats from the environment.

6. The Loyalist / The Loyal Person

Key Motivations: Want to have security, to feel supported by others, to have certitude and reassurance, to test the attitudes of others toward them, to fight against anxiety and insecurity.

7. The Enthusiast / The Joyful Person

Key Motivations: Want to maintain their freedom and happiness, to avoid missing out on worthwhile experiences, to keep themselves excited and occupied, to avoid and discharge pain.

8. The Challenger / The Powerful Person

Key Motivations: Want to be self-reliant, to prove their strength and resist weakness, to be important in their world, to dominate the environment, and to stay in control of their situation.

9. The Peacemaker / The Peaceful Person

Key Motivations: Want to create harmony in their environment, to avoid conflicts and tension, to preserve things as they are, to resist whatever would upset or disturb them.

Our personality has been shaped since we were born, influenced by family upbringing, education, peers and everything around our surroundings.

It may be difficult to change our personality but we can improve the quality of our life. Furthermore, no one is 100% perfect, aren’t we?
